original early 20th century antique american industrial adjustable height telephone switchboard operator chair or stool designed and fabricated by or for the thonet brothers co., new york city, ny. the oversized chair contains a revolving seat with intact backrest. the swivel seat is supported by a solid steel rod or threaded spindle attached to the elaborately constructed base. the outswept legs are structurally sound and stable. the original heel ring or footrest is free from damage. the switchboard operator stool has been lightly cleaned and sealed with a clear coat finish. amazingly, the original angled steel purse holder bracket is intact and affixed tightly to the underside of the revolving seat.
