late 19th century antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron residential fireplace gas grate surround designed and fabricated by bridgeford & co., inc., louisville, ky. the insert contains a fanciful protruding hood flanked by two fluted pilasters with decorative ionic columns. the topmost section resting above the hood features dentil molding and lightly embossed intricate foliage. the metallic gold enameled finish is mostly uniform throughout. measures 26 1/4 x 30 1/2 inches.
