original c. 1886 highly sought after and historically important cast brass emblematic doorknob salvaged from chicago's city hall and county building completed in 1886 and demolished in 1905. holabird and roche's extant city hall building, completed in 1911, replaced the building from which the doorknob was salvaged from. the french renissiance style building was designed by architect james egan. two variations of the doorknob exist.
