very rare and highly collectible single-sided flush mount antique american industrial chicago bridge plaque salvaged from an early 20th century city of chicago bridge located on the far west side. the massive and heavy cast iron plaque measures 21 x 18 inches. a centrally located single hole was made for a large bolt used to mount the plaque on a pin or gusset-jointed girder on either end of the truss bridge. the plaque contains lightly embossed markings identifying the maker and the year the bridge was erected. the lassig bridge and ironworks was founded in 1881, when moritz lassig formed a partnership with johu p. alden, under the names lassig and alden bridge and iron works of chicago, and alden and lassig bridge and iron works of rochester, new york. mr. lassig was active as the president and guiding spirit of the lassig bridge and iron works (located at at clybourn and wrightwood avenues, with offices in the rookery bld.) until the fall of 1900, when he sold his interests to the american bridge company and severed his connection with the firm. the company primarily manufactured railroad bridges and in some cases, iron and/or steel buildings. additional detailed exterior bridge photos provide "in situ" lassig plaques mounted to extant bridges across the united states.
