original 1890's intact freestanding varnished oak wood newel post with attached railing and spindles likely designed and executed by the foster-munger company, chicago, ills. the newel post features chamfered edges and original urn-shaped finial. the finely turned spindles are affixed to the hand rail. the salvaged staircase assembly was salvaged from a chicago two-flat undergoing demolition.
