nearly a year later, shooting congress theater remains top priority for months to come

despite being pinned down with so many ongoing projects for the past few years, a place i always make time to document inside and out is the congress theater. nearly a year has passed since i began photographing the logan square landmark. my eager excitement to use the building as a portal for traveling back in time has only intensified as i've spent more time with it. it feels quite natural to wander the lobby and explore its depths. i sometimes feel like i belong there - both in the theater and in the past. the congress theater's ornament has changed very little since its installation by tradesman in 1926, and knowing this, i am able to focus and find inner peace. contemplating the many lives and eras of use the ornament and building features have seen helps me to commune with the past.

the images below offer a fresh perspective on the theater's lobby, honing in on micro and macro details. with so many blog entries devoted to the tradesmen, i felt the need to interject with additional imagery purely of the lobby's ornament. future posts will explore the basement, where the theater's mechanics reside. since the majority of the systems are original and still functional, i need to document as much of it as i possibly can, given that the basement will likely be the first area altered once the long-awaited renovation and restoration begins in the coming months.

note: the "lost and found" book and several limited edition prints will be available for purchase in december of 2017.
