photographic documentation of chicago's late 19th and early 20th century building ornament revisited

fatigue and restlessness from spending too much time digitizing photographs, slides and ephemera on chicago's architectural past has reinvigorated me to resume my work, or rather, photographic studies on the city's architectural ornament through the use of my camera and zoom lenses.
the intimacy i feel with architectural ornament - achieved through the use of my lenses - has always been an effortless way to safely reside in the past. the ornament, when translated into photographic form, fosters vivid imagination and creativity to assist in sketching out the narratives i want or need to share.
when studying my images of ornament recorded in such great detail, i feel a strong connection between the architects, builders, and/or tradesmen, who's materials and methods led to the creation of such remarkable structures i have the privilege to document.
the following gallery represents only a fraction of the images i've managed to carefully edit and make presentable for others who share a similar appreciation for chicago's architectural ornament. some buildings have been revisited - the permanent "fixtures" on my "circuit," while others haven't been processed and/or recorded by my mind's eye. the latter obviously excite me the most, espeically when i become fixated on an aspect of a structure that would have otherwise gone unnoticed if it weren't for taking the time to seek out new ways of "seeing" ornament.
