i managed to revisit where i left off, documenting the exterior restoration work on the 40-story chicago jewelers building's southwest corner over weekend.
i focused on areas where installation of replicated cream-colored glazed terra cotta (executed by boston valley) is underway. a few additional images were taken of the southwest turret - one of four originally used to conceal water tanks for fire suppression - which is the last to be fully restored.
i've been documenting the work for nearly two years now. if i recall correctly, some two thousand pieces were made by boston valley for this job. i took the last images - showing original and replicated pieces - during my visit to boston valley terra cotta last spring.
the 1928 jewelers building was co-designed by joachim g. giaver and frederick p. dinkelberg.
