documented one of three original bricks salvaged from a. finkl's first machine shop erected after the foundry moved to the north side of chicago in 1902. each brick contains an early 1920's stamped steel inventory plaque - these were found on all the early machines during salvage. the bricks have been cleaned with plaques added with an adhesive. a. finkl & sons co. was founded in 1879 when german immigrant anton finkl developed a new kind of chisel to clean bricks from buildings destroyed in the great chicago fire. in 1902, the company moved to chicago's near north side. beginning in 2015, the former finkl foundry complex was demolished. priced individually. only three bricks available.
