opulent c. 1920's oversized heavy cast bronze interior chicago athletic association building annex ballroom 10-arm chandelier

stunning c. 1920's original nicely aged cast bronze 10-arm massive electric candelabra chandelier possibly fabricated by the herwig art shade & lamp company, chicago, il. the oversized chandelier was salvaged from a chicago association building annex ballroom (see picture of fixture in situ). the original white enameled cylindrical steel candle sleeves (used to conceal the keyless sockets) remain in great overall condition. the curvaceous brass arms contain a multitude of multifaceted and/or beveled edge crystals in a variety of different shapes and sizes. clusters of smaller sockets are found and the top and base of the ceiling chandelier. the 20-story prairie style chicago athletic association annex (also known as the chicago athletic club addition or "madison building") was designed by the notable chicago-based architectural firm of martin, garden & schmidt. the madison street landmarked high-rise was added to the existing 11-story neo-venetian style chicago club association building constructed in 1893 by architect henry ives cobb. the towering "gardenesque" style red brick and ornamented limestone annex was completed in 1907, with an additional eight floors added in 1925. together the two buildings form an l-shape wrapping around willoughby tower. the annex contained the famous "cherry circle" bar room, lodging, the crystal room, offices and a presidential suite on the 18th floor. measures approximately 41 inches tall with a 34 inch diameter.
