19th century american victorian era exterior (i.e., entrance door) rectangular-shaped doorknob backplate. possibly fabricated by russell & erwin or the p. & f. corbin hardware company. very unique and intricately designed lightly incised design motifs. the protruding wrought brass collar or thimble is original and fastened tightly to the backside of the door escutcheon. mostly uniform surface patina. measures approximately 7 x 1 7/8 inches.
