single early 1860's privy dug deep blue green porter style smooth base bottle manufactured for edward duffy & sons in philadelphia, pa. the front of the bottle features deeply embossed block lettering inside a distinct debossed slug plate, reading “e duffy & sons / 914 filbert st” with a raised end-letter 't' in in "st". the low, steep shoulders and long neck are finished with an applied tapered collar and ring that has slight slop and some whittling. the body is heavily whittled, exhibiting allover seeding. at the flat base, a circular indentation and side seams evidence manufacture with a post-bottom mold. edward duffy & sons is listed as a soap and candle manufacturer in 1863, but is also listed as a bottler in earlier 1856 and 1858 city directories.
