fully functional early 1930's original american art deco wall-mount streamlined style illuminated exit sign designed and fabricated by or for sterling industries inc., philadelphia, pa. the "can" sign contains an old metallic gold enameled finish that has darkened over time. the socket housing and glass sign sleeve is comprised of light weighted folded and pressed steel. the brightly colored plate glass inset or light panel contains bold white lettering against a solid red background. two opposed chrome plated bent steel bands wrap around the sides of the can. the interior retains the original single ceramic socket. the flush mount exit light was salvaged from a chicago auditorium during building upgrades. measures approximately 14 x 3 1/2 x 9 inches.
