very distinctive looking antiquated american industrial early 20th century weston milli-volmeter portable shunt designed and fabricated by or for the western electrical instrument company, newark, nj. the completely intact "specially alloy" shunt contains a solid walnut wood base on which the perforated plated brass enclosure is secured. the shunt contains two nickel-plated cast brass handles for easy transport. the knurled yellow brass dials and solid copper bar are original and intact. the refinished external resistor is typically placed in parallel with a current meter to extend the measurement range of the meter. readings are taken when the bar is removed. great overall condition.
