single all original early 20th century antique american industrial ceiling or wall-mount refinished cast iron condulet or "explosion proof" light fixture designed and fabricated by the appleton electric co., chicago, il. the condulet is comprised of solid iron with a uniform brushed bare metal finish. the impact-resistant heavy duty clear glass globe with threads is tightly affixed to the fixture. the cook county hospital power plant (salvaged in 2006) industrial fixture can be mounted flush against the ceiling or mounted against the wall. the original strap metal cage was removed long ago. only two of the appleton fixtures used on the gantry crane retained their protective cages. the fixture includes the steel pipe and flange.
