all original early 20th century ornamental cast iron "flamboyant" pattern interior residential gravity baseboard heat register. contains a functional thumb-actuated damper comprised of sheet steel. the intricately designed removable grille features a centrally located highly stylized radiating sunburst design motif. the panel or grille can be easily removed to gain access to the duct. the heat registers were often used with gravity furnaces well into the 20th century until being gradually replaced when forced air systems were introduced. the black enameled baseboard register was fabricated by the hess warming & ventilating co., chicago, il. measures 14 3/4 x 14 inches. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence built around 1905. limited quantity available. measures approximately 15 x 12 inches.
