the vintage medical torso model depicted above was one of the first "life-like" models introduced in 1951 by nystrom. the instructional anatomical freestanding model is comprised of vinyl plastic, with hand-painted finish. several hand applied identification numbers remain intact. the lifelike detailed educational model is skillfully crafted to provide a detailed three dimensional visual understanding of human anatomy. the elongated oval ceramic base is original and intact, retaining original name plaque. manufactured by the nystrom biological model co., chicago, il. salvaged from old cook county hospital, chicago, il. measures 32 1/2 x 20 inches.
