unusual original 19th century antique american victorian era exterior red slip figural solid block salvaged from the facade of a chicago mansion built around 1885. the square-shaped baked clay brick features a deeply embossed salamander surrounded by richly ornate leafage. the ornamental block was designed and fabricated by the anderson pressed brick company, chicago, il. excellent overall condition. mostly uniform surface patina. the anderson pressed brick company was founded by j.c. anderson and grew to operate a large plant at elston and avenue and asylum place. measures approximately 9 x 9 inches.
