anker graver (graver an mayger) copy's of a softbound catalog of buildings designed by c.w. & george l. rapp. the cover is embossed in brown ink "the recent work of / c.w. & geo. l. rapp / architects / chicago / new york / mcmxxvii" with a central inlaid brown rendering of the paramount theatre and office building in new york. the book features 92 pages of large richly detailed black and white photographs depicting the ornate interiors of many theatre palaces and facades of the architect's work in chicago, new york, and throughout the country. cornelius ward rapp and george leslie rapp came from a family in carbondale, illinois that would comprise three generations of important architects. the brothers formed their firm "rapp & rapp" in 1907. the spectacular movie palaces they designed during the 1920's brought them enduring fame, with over 400 theaters commissioned nationwide and a partnership with balaban & katz that lead to designing most of the major theaters in chicago. many of their designs incorporated old world or historical references, utilizing lavish french baroque or spanish revival design elements for instance.
