hard to find intact and original antique c.1854-1857 teal blue glass mineral water bottle manufactured for new orleans bottler t.s. waterman. the front body is embossed "t.s. waterman / 11 st paul st / n. o." with a raised and underlined end-letter "t" in "st". the reverse is embossed "w / mineral water". the base exhibits a moderate kickup from manufacture with iron pontil. seams suggest it was produced with a two leaf mold. the low, steep shoulders are finished with a long neck and intact tapered collar. thomas s. waterman was born in lynn, massachusetts in 1818, and came to new orleans in 1842 to work for his uncle, newland holmes, who'd begun manufacturing soda water there as early as 1828. in 1846 holmes was succeeded by his nephew, who continued expanding the business and became the "oldest merchant in his line in new orleans, perhaps in the entire south" according to an 1890's publication.
