Product Description

original c. 1840's deep cobalt blue glass iron pontiled soda or mineral water bottle manufactured for john tweddle jr. in new york. the low steep shoulders and long narrow neck are finished with an applied blob top that exhibits allover whittling and some slop. worn side seams run from base to neck, evidencing manufacture with a two-leaf mold. the front body is embossed "tweddle's/ celebrated / soda or mineral / waters", while the reverse reads, "courtland street / 38 / new york". the base has a deep kickup with heavy residue from the iron pontil. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture, including bubbles, allover surface scratches, and whittling. according to city directories, tweddle operated at 38 courtland around 1845.
