all original exceptional 19th century american high victorian era mobile library reading stand and dictionary holder attributed to the la verne w. noyes company, chicago, il. the interlocking, pivotal shelving plates are adorned with intricately designed filigree. the base is comprised of cast iron, with each outswept leg containing elegant foliated scrollwork. the double-sided dictionary holder shares the same fanciful filigree used on the spring-loaded shelving plates. the height of the tubular upright is fully adjustable. the original highly desirable oxidized-copper plated finish remains largely intact. the reading stand was likely fabricated around 1880-85. the diminutive rollers or casters are in good shape. the collapsible stand was salvaged from a prominent 19th century chicago doctor's office or study.
