patrick conway, bottler, 8 hunter street, 108 filbert street, philadelphia, pa.
original mid-19th century antique american tumbled (i.e., cleaned) privy dug "mineral waters" cornflower blue bottle distributed by bottler patrick conway of philadelphia, pa. the rare and highly collectible two-leaf hinged mold bottle contains a very crude and sharp-edged open pontil scar base that extends to the heel. the embossed markings identify the name, city, street address, and the contents within the bottle. conway shows up in several philadelphia city directories with the majority found in the early to mid-1850's. the address of his bottling "works" does change throughout the years. the crudely applied blobtop with slop-over remains in great condition. the body is heavily seeded or contains several air bubbles. the long and slightly tapered neck has stretch marks and other imperfections consistent with age and production techniques used during this period.
