hard to find and unusually assembled double riveted joint plaques designed and fabricated by or for the variety mfg. co., chicago, ills. the backplate is comprised of iron, with a brass embossed underwriters' plaque mounted above a larger stamped yellow brass plaque identifying the manufacturer. the assemblage was salvaged from an old freight elevator formerly used in a pre-fire crane brothers factory building addition located near the site of the haymarket riot in chicago, ills. great overall condition very limited number available. the plaque was mounted flush against the freight elevator door.
