c. 1890-1910 antique american original and intact lightweight stamped or pressed steel interior residential metallic gold enameled figural fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the intact fireplace surround summer cover features a costumed maiden leaning against a tree with her hands grasping a branch. the surrounding embossed border has an inner beaded pattern with repeating floral motif. the single-sided summer cover contains a single knob for handling purposes. no rust, significant paint loss, or major bends evident. measures 24 x 2 x 26 1/2 inches.
