a set of original c. 1930's american depression era "durasteel" lightweight welding or welder's goggles designed and fabricated by the american optical company (safety division), southbridge, mass. the largely intact "steampunk" style industrial goggles contains reinforced enameled steel side shields for optimal ventilation. the elastic headbands are intact despite age and prolonged use (i.e., wear and tear on the jobsite). the goggles were used by a local welder (who has since passed on) involved in the construction on several depression era downtown chicago skyscrapers. the padded leather covered frames provided added comfort. the two eyepieces are held together with original brass beaded chain. the dark green glass lenses are free from damage. priced individually. measures approximately 6 inches across with an adjustable headband.
