largely intact lightweight c. 1940's american industrial portable coal mining or possibly navy "stokes basket" ( designed by lowell stokes) or stretcher fabricated by or for the safety first supply co., pittsburgh, pa. the stretcher basket contains a light gauge bent steel frame with original hexagonal wire mesh or netting. the safety device was/is typically used in search and rescue settings. contains a distressed silver metallic paint finish. measures 76 x 28 inches.
