remarkable all original and lightly cleaned (not tumbled) late 1840's antique american "celebrated mineral waters" iron-pontiled bottle bottled by or for burr & waters, buffalo, ny. the richly colored "electric" or cobalt blue-colored glass soda/mineral water bottle was discovered buried within the chicago river bottom or riverbed during excavations in 2014 at old wolf point in chicago. the amazingly intact cobalt blue bottle has a pronounced "kick-up" with a thick layer of iron residue or scarring remaining almost completely intact. the bottle contains an impressive slug plate strike resulting in deeply embossed and clear and crisp lettering. an applied tapered collar sits on a long tapered neck with no chip marks evident. surface wear consistent with age. the crudity, in the form of heavy whittle marks from the hinged wood mold are abundant throughout. the bottle was likely tossed from a passing schooner traveling from buffalo, as the bottle was not found in any sort of man-made privy pit or the like. several period bottles were discovered in the same region.
