original and intact ceiling-mount interior residential pendant light fixture with a blue opalescent swirl "bullet" shade designed and fabricated by the phoenix glass company, monaca, pa. the fixture contains a period appropriate rayon cloth cord wired to a pull-chain socket. the fitter, chain and canopy have a mostly uniform gold finish. the fanciful victorian era shade is free from cracks or breaks. the phoenix glass company was organized in 1880, by andrew howard, formerly connected with the union line of the pennsylvania railroad company, with a capitalization of $30,000. the company was reorganized in 1891, the capitalization being $700,000. its plant was located at monaca, beaver county, pa., on the new york central lines, and occupied a space of about ten acres. the company was originally organized for the manufacture of specialties, but later made a very large line of lamp chimneys, and was the first company west of the allegheny mountains to produce opalescent and rich cut glass. by the early 20th century, they were the largest exclusive manufacturers of illuminating glassware in the united states, to which they devoted their entire efforts. large quantity of art glass period shades available. please call or email for additional information. measures approximately 5 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. approx. 21 inches in height
