unique industrial style stainless steel hand crank adjustable gurney with large original swivel casters manufactured by the colson caster co. the raised edges of the gurney top are protected by an old rubber bumper. bottom shelf w/ raised lip or edge found centered beneath the bed. likely used for storage purposes of misc. medical disposables. removed from the old cook county hospital basement morgue. measures 72 inches in length by 35 inches in height by 23 1/2 inches in width. the name gurney comes from its similarity to a horse-drawn cab patented in the u.s. in 1883 by j. theodore gurney.
