unique collection of early 20th century hand tinted "magic lantern" glass slides fabricated by the mcintosh battery and optical company, chicago, ills. the wood and glass lantern or projector slides depict a wide array of vividly colored and detailed masonic or freemason symbols. each delicate glass slide is encased in a varnished walnut wood block containing lightly incised maker markings, along with the lodge from which the slides were used. the slides were manufactured by the chicago-based mcintosh battery and optical company. the original hinged door darkly stained mahogany wood slide cabinet was found with the slides intact. the slotted interior was made specifically for the slides. salvaged from a chicago lodge undergoing demolition.
