f. e. myers & bro., ashland, ohio, first began the manufacture of hay tools in 1882, at which time they originated a new idea in hay carriers, as represented by the myers "o. k." reversible. this carrier had a wide mouth to receive the fork pulley, which allowed it to approach with a swinging load. this carrier was very satisfactory in the main, but it had the objectionable feature of not being swivel as well as reversible. the result was that they were compelled to make two separate lines of carriers to fill both swivel and straight reversible combined into one. this enables the jobber or dealer to carry the one style of carrier only, and yet be able to fill all requirements, as the carrier can be reversed either by swiveling or by drawing the rope through from end to end, as the operator may desire. the myers unloaders are equipped with a double lock, which engages the knocker and fork pulley on either side of the frame. this double lock is a great advantage, for the reason that either one of the locks will hold the load requirements. the hay unloader is complete with functional track wheels containing turned-steel bearings. the sheaves revolve on steel bushings, and are sized to carry 1 inch rope. the myer unloader is comprised of annealed malleable iron with all steel bearings turned on a lathe. the original aluminum-bronze finish remains largely intact.
