several more newly acquired new york city subway light "bare bulb" fixtures available for purchase

i was absolutely delighted to begin the week by acquiring an assortment of original early 20th century cast bronze and brass "bare bulb" industrial incandescent light fixtures salvaged from various new york city subway stations.

the subway station fixtures are  so incredibly simplistic and visually attractive in design, with virtually unlimited potential for use in a vast array of settings. to be quite frank, i'm quite surprised restoration hardware or rejuvenation lighting hasn't "knocked" them off.

the latest assemblage of fixtures represents the second time i've been fortunate enough to purchase this type of lighting in quantity. the first group are nearly identical in both material and overall design, with the only exception being a pivoting cradle used to secure and protect the incandescent light bulbs, which at the time, were still relatively new and considered a novelty.

as late as the 1920's, incandescent light bulbs were still regarded as innovative and a privilege to use, to the point where in industrial settings, the mcgill mfg. co., valparaiso, ind., was cranking out the "loxon" bulb guard with a customized key to prevent the bulbs from theft, damage, etc.

an itemized inventory of the most recent subway fixtures purchased are shown below in the image gallery and now available for purchase on the urban remains website.
