bldg. 51 museum archive secures several historically important chicago building informational booklets and brochures

the bldg. 51 museum and archive recently acquired several books, catalogs, prints, ledgers, letters, and other articles of importance once belonging to the notable chicago-based architectural firm of jenney and mundie; william le baron jenney is often referred to as "father of the skyscraper".

when jenney retired in 1905, mundie added a third partner - elmer jensen, who had begun working for them as an office boy. the firm then became jenney, mundie & jensen until jenney died two years later in 1907.  mundie & jensen took two senior draftsmen into partnership in 1936, and the firm was changed again to mundie, jensen, bourke & havens. After mundie’s death in 1939, the partners retained his name until 1952, when they assumed the name jensen, mcclurg & halstead.

i've spent the past week carefully sorting and documenting several rooms containing cabinets and 1shelves packed with books and binders pertaining to the firm. i plan on digitizing the entire collection for research/scholarly purposes, but of course this will take a great deal of time and commitment. when time permits, i will be devoting several blog entries to certain facets of the collection that i find the most appealing - at least in the moment - as i sort through the large body of work left untouched and haphazardly arranged for decades.

the other day i came across a box containing several ceremonial and/or informational booklets and brochures. they cover various chicago buildings dating back to the late 19th century, beginning with the non-extant isabella building (1893). the images in this blog entry offer a glimpse of yesterday's discovery.

i was delighted to come across the tribune tower informational booklets as shown below.
