original and intact 19th century antique american ornamental black enameled cast iron fireplace mantel summer cover and matching surround, possibly fabricate by the peerless mfg. company, louisville, ky. the heavily perforated eastlake style summer cover was salvaged from an 1880s chicago residence undergoing demolition. the fireplace cover and surround are in great overall condition with no cracks or breaks evident.
