exceptional antique american victorian era hand carved oak wood residential fireplace mantel fabricated by chas. f. lorenzen & co., chicago, il. the contoured frieze panel features a centrally located north wind face or perhaps foliate head, flanked by intricately designed foliated scrollwork. the curvaceous legs are accentuated with tablet rosettes and claw feet resting on square plinth blocks. original trimwork and mantelshelf intact. salvaged from a c. 1887 chicago mansion demolished in the 1960's. original varnished finish remains largely intact. mantel measures 64 x 12 x 48 inches and opening measures 41 x 36 inches.
