original c. 1905-10 adjustable height solid oak wood new york city switchboard operator chair or stool fabricated by the johnson chair co., chicago, il. the chair features a spacious saddle seat with slightly contoured edges. the intact backrest is supported by a patented spring-loaded lever mechanism for adjusting tilt, etc. the four matching outswept legs are fastened to a cast iron base or seat containing both the perforated faucet wheel and solid steel threaded spindle. the bent wood footrest is supported by four angular wood brackets. the revolving seat moves up and down with ease. all original varnished finish. excellent overall condition, considering age. seat height adjusts from approximately 28 1/2 to 32 1/2 inches.
