hard to find and highly desirable late 1890's antique american industrial mobile factory cart or "truck" designed and fabricated by the john t. towsley mfg. co., cincinnati, oh. the "towsley" type truck contains a nicely worn platform consisting of oak wood boards fastened tightly to the frame. the fanciful riveted joint wrought iron upright brackets containing the original solid oak wood cylindrical-shaped handrail are structurally sound. the perforated oversized stationary wheels and smaller cast iron swivel casters with malleable iron forks have been thoroughly cleaned and refurbished. the structural integrity of the rotating solid steel rod axles remains satisfactory. the mortise and tenon joint side rails are free from excessive wear and/or damage despite frequency of use. nearly a hundred matching floor trucks were originally purchased by the burhop company in 1918 for facilitating the transfer of large loads of shipping supplies from warehouse to dock in a timely fashion. the iron and wood trucks were used extensively throughout the years at multiple locations required to handle the needs of increased operational output and subsequent expansion into larger facilities. the trucks were salvaged from the burhops's third (and current) location, where they have been conducting business since 1927. priced individually. measures approximately 51 1/2 x 24 x 15 inches, or 35 inches in height including the carts handle.
