hard to find and highly sought after late 19th century ornamental cast iron residential fireplace gas insert retaining the original summer cover. the transitional grate contains a distinct combination of craftsman, nouveau and perhaps celtic design elements. the detachable summer cover is most impressive, with two highly abstract pierced iron flowers with segmented ribbons. the original oxidized copper plating remains largely intact. manufactured by the ohio foundry co., steubenville, oh. measures 30 x 25 inches. recently salvaged from a lincoln park two flat residence.
