unique repurposed american industrial freestanding theater stage single electric incandescent "ghost light." the stationary electric lamp is supported by a red enameled and brushed iron three-legged stand comprised of both vast iron and tubular steel. the fixture has been rewired using period appropriate black braided cloth cord. there are many myths and/or legends surrounding the purpose and use of the ghost light (e.g., deter the presence of old ghosts), but according to a number of 1920's theater supply catalogs, the single light fixtures were referred to as "cleaner stands" and/or portable work lights. the sun-purple tinted threaded end jar or bulb guard with lightly etched lettering was fabricated by or for the appleton electric company, chicago, il. measures 66 inches tall.
