original late 19th ornamental cast brass american victorian era interior residential doorknob rosette or escutcheon. the circular doorknob backplate features a repeating palmette design motif surrounding the thimble or deep-seated collar. the rosette was fabricated sometime in the 1870's by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. traces of an old gold enameled finish evident. measures approximately 2 inches in diameter.
