early 20th century original and largely intact antique american interior residential ornamental stamped steel fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by the dawson brothers, chicago, il. the summer cover features a centrally located laurel wreath with fanciful ribbons. the flanking pilasters with decorative capitals feature a repeating bellflower design motif. amazingly, the original oxidized copper-plated surface finish remains in great overall condition, considering age. salvaged from a chicago three-flat graystone residence constructed around 1906. measures 24 1/2 x 30 1/2 inches.
