original early 20th century american interior residential stamped brass doorknob backplate featuring abundant foliated scrollwork along the edges. the passage door backplate was likely fabricated by reading or possibly sargent. the surface finish is mostly uniform. the protruding collar or thimble is tightly affixed to the backside of the escutcheon. measures approximately 7 1/4 x 2 3/8 inches.
