original and largely intact museum quality c. 1936-7 fired beige clay ornamental terra cotta upper cornice panel salvaged from the thomas a. edison school (non-extant) once located at calumet ave. & 170th street in hammond, in. the original red slip glaze remains largely intact. features an impressive combination of strong geometric elements intertwined with intricate organic (i.e., leafage) design elements. the terra cotta panel was fabricated by the northwestern terra cotta company (chicago, il). the school's principal architect was william hutton, with george grant elmslie and clay modeler fritz albert designing and creating the exterior terra cotta.
