all original and completely intact highly desirable model "2110-v.f." self-contained two-part holophane prismatic glass reflector-refractor pendant lamp designed and fabricated by the holophane company, inc., new york city, ny. this distinctive holophane unit was first introduced around 1918. the upper part of the unit is a reflector that would ordinarily use 75 to 100 watt light bulbs. the bottom section has the prisms arranged so as to distribute the light by means of refractor principle. the refractor produces an extensive distribution without intercepting the direct light immediately under the lamp. this holophane unit was often used in schools, offices, libraries, stores, etc., where the ceiling was low and a wide distribution of light was required. the two distinct prismatic glass units are held together with decorative steel clips. the canopy, chain and shade fitter are comprised of spun brass with dark normandy bronze finish. salvaged from an old pennsylvania asylum. two matching units available. measures 14 x 38 inches.
