all original and well-maintained varnished oak wood american victorian era hand carved interior residential new post salvaged from a chicago mansion located in lincoln park. while the house stays, so of the original architectural elements were removed for building code compliance. the intricately carved oak wood freestanding newel post contains elaborate panels, fretwork, and railing. the turned urn-shaped finial is original and intact. the exact fabricator is not known. dates to the 1880's.
