very simple, yet delightfully elegant c. 1870's solid ornamental cast bronze residential entrance door oversized doorknob featuring an egg & dart border along the banded edge. the center is divided into six equal quadrants containing abstract floral motifs. contains a naturally aged surface patina. the early american decorative doorknob was likely fabricated by sargent or possibly yale & towne. measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
