all original highly sought after c. 1940's vintage american industrial articulating arm "woodward" factory bench task lamp designed and fabricated in 1943 by william h. woodward of detroit, mi. the machine shop "utilight" articulating task lamp contains a unique cast iron annular flange with a spherical enlargement formed with transverse bores in either of which a rigid steel post can be held in selective adjustments secured with a set screw. the unique adjustable joint is comprised of two circular friction plates interconnected by a single bolt, which with its nut, regulates the pressure mutually applied to the discs. sleeve type socket receives the adjustable arms containing the light source and upright post affixed to the "swing-out" cast iron arm featuring deeply embossed lettering. retains the original paddle or key socket, encased by the hard to find black porcelain enameled pressed steel "slim helmet" reflector. the industrial task lamp has been rewired with period appropriate yellow cloth cord wiring. cast iron and steel components have been carefully cleaned and treated with a cleat coat finish. all original and completely intact.
