all original early 20th century american industrial versatile task lamp comprise largely of spun yellow brass metal. the weighted base is made of cast iron with baseplate containing a small opening for the lamp cord. the tilting half-dome shade is supported by two bent brass straps mounted around the underside of the stationary socket. the adjustable lamp contains a large ball joint with original adjustable wing nut. the original hubbell socket features a long beaded pull chain with acorn finial. the "no.3174" portable lamp was fabricated by the faries mfg. co., decatur, il. the lamp can be mounted on the wall as well as desk or table. measures approximately 16 1/2 inches in height.
