very unique late 19th century vintage industrial american prison cell window removed long ago from an old ohio state penitentiary (non-extant). the rectangular-shaped solid steel "barred" window features evenly spaced turned spindles comprised of solid steel. the doric order capitals contain banded necking swelling out into a smooth echinus. the bars are tightly secured to the wrought iron frame with riveted joints. four welded joint steel plate brackets anchor the window against the surrounding brick, concrete or stone opening. the jail cell window was likely fabricated by the j. t. barnum co., detroit, mi. completely refinished and treated with a clear coat lacquer.
